How to Transfer a Domain Name

When you buy a domain name, be it from DomFind or any other site you need to transfer the domain from one register to another. A register is basically a management company where you keep your domain name until you decided to move the domain elsewhere, for whatever reason, be it that you sold it or you just want to move registers to take advantage of better pricking; whatever.

If you’re unsure what a domain name is or what a domain register is we have developed an article that you may like to read, please read What is a domain name.

In this article we are just going to be discussing transferring a domain name from our register to your register and not vice versa. If you have any questions about setting up a domain register please feel free to contact us and we can send you a link with easy step by step instructions.

Depending on what register you’re with or signed up with there are two main ways to transfer a domain name from our register to yours:

If your register is GoDaddy, it is quite an easy process as we are registered with GoDaddy as well. All we would need is your customer number and the email address associated with your account. We would put all the information into our account, you would just need to log into your account and click the accept button, and the domain will transfer over. This process generally takes a day or two before you’ll see the domain in your account.

If you went with another register the process is still simple it just takes a bit more back and forth and time. We would email you an authorization code that you need to plug into your register. From there we would receive a message on from your domain register, we would click accept, and then you would get a message on your side. Once you click accept on your side the domain name will move over. As far as time wise, because of the back and forth this may take a few days.

This whole process sounds much more difficult than it actually is but, don’t worry if you buy a domain name from DomFind all you have to do is pick up the phone or drop us an email and we’ll walk you through it.
